AIMCo is truly a different kind of place to work. There are no barriers to communication. There is no internal competition. There is no envy of accomplishment. There is instead a spirit of cooperation and people working together. Different groups - investments, operations, risk management - work together. A team approach is used in all areas and the synergy is unmistakable. Simply put, we are excited about the future and the opportunities ahead. At the same time, we are very much aware that the world is constantly evolving and what works today may not necessarily work tomorrow. We don’t pretend that we know everything.

Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo) is one of Canada’s largest and most diversified institutional investment fund managers, with an investment portfolio of approximately $70 billion. We invest globally on behalf of our clients, 26 pension, endowment and government funds in the Province of Alberta.
We became a Crown corporation on January 1, 2008, and our sole shareholder is the Province of Alberta. Our goal is to inspire the confidence of Albertans by achieving superior risk-adjusted investment returns. To help reach this goal, we have extraordinary teams of top professionals and are governed by an experienced and highly talented board of directors.
AIMCo manages funds for a diverse group of Alberta public sector clients. We create portfolios that reflect the clients’ chosen risk and return profiles. The majority of AIMCo’s assets under management come from Alberta public sector pension plans and provincial endowment funds. Collectively known as AIMCo’s Balanced Funds, these clients are primarily invested in equities, bonds and inflation sensitive products. Other assets, managed for the Government of Alberta, are generally invested in money market and short-term bonds.
The pension funds meet the retirement income needs of nearly 310,000 active and retired public sector employees. In 2012, these funds paid out nearly $1.3 billion in pension payments, refunds and transfers to other plans. The government funds we manage are used for Albertans’ priorities such as health care, education, infrastructure and social programs.
