Differ’s business idea is to help scale up small-scale carbon reduction technologies (e.g. PV and energy efficiency) in developing countries through
– investing in start-ups (cash and sweat equity)
– developing our own concepts and companies
– advising project developers, project owners, investors and other decision makers to do the same
– in-depth analysis on e.g. market conditions, feed-in-tariffs, financing and business opportunities in selected developing countries which will be distributed for free
The company was founded in November 2010 by entrepreneurs that previously have started and developed companies like Renewable Energy Corporation (REC) and Point Carbon.
INVESTMENTS
Differ is continuously seeking to invest in start-up companies working to implement small-scale carbon reduction technologies and projects. Our main focus is on well-tested and established technologies in areas such as electricity generation using renewable energy sources, energy efficiency and waste management.
Complementary to these investments we seek to develop our own concepts and companies. Our business idea, to scale up small-scale carbon reductions, should be reflected in the companies and technologies we choose to invest in or develop ourselves, as scalability is important for lowering end-user costs, increasing profitability and overall social and environmental benefits. We do not invest in single projects unless they are instrumental for one of our equity investments.
